San Francisco (September 21, 2023) - John Yehall Chin Elementary School, Jose Ortega Elementary School, and Ulloa Elementary School in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as part of 33 schools in California to be named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2023.
Schools are recognized for their overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. All three SFUSD schools were recognized as Exemplary High Performing Schools for overall academic performance. The recognized schools are among the state’s highest performing based on all student scores, subgroup student scores, and graduation rates.
“We are so proud of our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools and the administrators, educators, staff, families, and students for earning this remarkable designation,” said SFUSD Superintendent Matt Wayne. “This award shows what is possible for our district in achieving excellence and meeting student outcomes.”
Chin Elementary and Ulloa Elementary were previously recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools in past years and are also designated as Title I Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.
Schools will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 16 and 17.
