SFUSD, UESF Announce $9,000 Salary Raise for Teachers for 2023-24

San Francisco (October 20, 2023) - The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) announced that they have reached a tentative agreement for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.

The tentative agreement includes a $9,000 salary increase for teachers in the 2023-2024 school year. Teachers will also receive an additional 5% raise for the 2024-2025 school year, which will be phased in and be in full effect by January 2025. The tentative agreement will also provide additional stipends for hard-to-staff positions for social workers, nurses and special education teachers. Paraeducators will receive a minimum starting salary of $30/hour or an 8% raise, whichever is greater for school year 2023-24. For 2024-25, paraeducators will receive an additional 5% salary increase for the 2024-2025 school year, which will be phased in and be in full effect by January 2025.

“We are thrilled to reach an agreement with our labor partners that provides our dedicated educators with well-deserved raises,” Superintendent Dr. Matt Wayne said. “We recognize and appreciate the tireless effort, commitment, and inspiration they bring to the classroom every day. This increase in compensation reflects our commitment to valuing and supporting our educators, and attracting and retaining talented professionals.”

"This is a historic win for San Francisco educators and students. With incredible support from parents and the community, we were able to reach an agreement that will help stabilize our schools," said UESF President Cassondra Curiel. "We appreciate Dr. Wayne and his cabinet for taking our demands seriously, and we look forward to working together in partnership with SFUSD to continue to build the schools our students deserve."

The tentative agreement must be ratified by the UESF membership and finalized upon a vote by the San Francisco Board of Education at an upcoming meeting.

On Oct. 18, SFUSD announced it reached a tentative agreement with Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 1021 for a Collective Bargaining Agreement from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025.

About SFUSD

SFUSD is the seventh largest school district in California, educating 50,000 PreK-12 students every year. San Francisco is both a city and a county; therefore, SFUSD administers both the school district and the San Francisco County Office of Education (COE). This makes SFUSD a “single district county.”
