Hi everybody! We hope that everyone has had a nice start to the school year. For those of you who may not know, my name is Isabella Hansen, and I am a senior at RASOTA. I serve as the SFUSD Student Advisory Council elected Interim Student Delegate.

 

Hello from Cal

Hello everyone! My name is Cal Kinoshita, and I’m a senior at Lowell High School. I am your elected student delegate, and I can’t wait to move forward with resolutions that tackle the issues facing our district!

 

What is the SFUSD Student Advisory Council? 

The SFUSD Student Advisory Council is a group composed of representatives who come from any school in SFUSD to help advise the Board of Education, introduce resolutions and advocate for their school community. We are still looking for representatives from the following schools: Mission, John O’Connell, Ida B. Wells, Downtown, Independence, San Francisco International, The Academy, June Jordan School for Equity, Thurgood Marshall, Raoul Wallenberg and Burton. You can apply online. We meet biweekly from 6:00 - 9 p.m. at 555 Franklin and dinner will be provided! 

 

What Do Student Delegates Do? 

The Student Delegates serve as a liaison between SFUSD’s greater student body and the Board of Education. We share student perspectives on critical matters facing our schools. We represent all of SFUSD’s almost 50,000 students.


A good way to keep up with SAC and Student Delegate news is to follow our Instagrams at @sfusdsac and @sfusdstudentdelegates. Feel free to reach out via Instagram with any questions or concerns. You can also find information about upcoming Board meetings on our Student Delegate Instagram page as well. You will be hearing from us more monthly through these newsletters, so keep an eye out!

Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month

 

SFUSD joins the nation in celebrating Latinx Heritage Month from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15 to highlight the diversity, brilliance and beauty of the Latinx community. 
 
From honoring Latinx leaders in the names of our schools (such as Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez) to offering robust language programs, our schools strive to be places where every student can see themselves and be themselves, where learning reflects both the familiar and unknown.

SF Board of Education Vision, Values, and Goals Community Meeting for Students

 

The SF Board of Education will be holding a series of listening sessions to learn how to best serve the SFUSD community. Be sure to save the date and time for Thursday, Sept. 29 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. for a virtual session just for students like yourselves. This is a chance to have your voice heard directly by the Board of Education. To RSVP, please email Marykate Rossi at rossim@sfusd.edu.

Virtual Teen Classes

 

The Mix at the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) and partners present their fall session of virtual teen classes. Learn about animation and painting landscapes! Class times and days vary and go until Nov. 10.

College Track Program

 

College Track is recruiting 9th and 10th grade students from low-income households who will become the first in their family to graduate from college. This FREE 10-year program will support students from 9th grade until college graduation. If selected, you can receive access to tutoring, workshops, scholarships, and internships. Apply here for the Spring 2023 semester or submit an interest form to have staff contact you.

We wish a happy celebration to members of our community who observe Mexican Independence Day, Rosh Hashanah, Navaratri, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and Yom Kippur.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Recruitment Fair

 

The San Francisco Alliance of Black School Educators and partners is hosting the 23rd Annual Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) Recruitment Fair at SF City Hall on Monday, Sept. 12 from 4-7 p.m. High school seniors will have the opportunity to meet with recruiters from 30-35 different HBCUs, receive application fee waivers, get ”on the spot” admissions from selected colleges (if qualified), along with scholarships. Talk to your school counselor to register or click on the link below.

CSU College Night

 

Interested in attending a CSU? Students and families are invited to the CSU College Night in the Bay Area on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 6-7 p.m. at the San Jose Doubletree Hotel. You can meet with representatives from all 23 CSU campuses at this free event and learn more about each school, requirements, applications, financial aid, and more.
