Dear SFUSD Families,
Happy Filipinx American History Month! SFUSD is committed to uplifting the cultural brilliance and historic contributions of the Filipinx community in San Francisco and within our schools. SFUSD celebrates the Filipinx community all year round through Kababayan SFUSD, an organization of SFUSD Filipinx employees who organize community events and help support the success and well-being of Filipinx students.
This month and throughout the year, I encourage you to learn about how Filipinos have participated in and helped lead social justice movements in America. SFUSD has compiled a resource guide with content to learn more about Filipinx American history and ways to engage with the local Filipinx community.
Dr. Matt Wayne
SFUSD Superintendent

Diwali
Diwali (also known as Divali or Deepavali) is a festival of lights that honors the blessings of victory, freedom, and enlightenment as well as the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. This year, Diwali will be celebrated on October 24. Diwali celebrants burn a large number of candles and clay lamps, or diyas, and scatter them throughout their homes and along the streets to illuminate the gloomy night.
Wishing everyone a happy Diwali! |
