As a school district that values diversity, we believe Black History should be celebrated 365 days a year — 366 in a leap year. We look forward to seeing how each and every single one of our school sites celebrates Black History Month! The recent mass shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay have evoked a range of emotions and concerns of safety across the United States. In response, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network has developed resources to help you, your families, and communities find ways to cope together, including a Coping After Mass Violence resource for teens (Also available in Spanish). |

Congratulations to Jeffrey Xu from Lowell High School, who is one of 40 finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2023, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. Jeffrey and the other finalists, chosen from 1,949 applicants from 628 high schools across 48 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and four other countries, will compete for more than $1.8 million in awards during a weeklong competition in Washington, D.C. from March 9-15. |

Learning About Waterfront Resilience

Students from Lincoln High School and The Academy SF at McAteer attended a field trip along the SF Embarcadero waterfront hosted by the Port of San Francisco and the Exploratorium to see the king tides. The field trip was part of an exploratory project for a potential pilot and longer-term partnership with the Port of San Francisco for students to participate in designing for local climate resilience. |

Lincoln High School Football Team at City Hall

The Lincoln Mustangs were invited to City Hall on Jan. 25 to celebrate their California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 7-A Championship. Mayor London Breed issued a proclamation for Jan. 25 to be known as Lincoln Football Team Day in the City and County of San Francisco, and City Hall was lit up in crimson and gold for the occasion.

Youth Local Civic Engagement Survey
The San Francisco Youth Commission Civic Engagement Committee has released a survey to capture San Francisco youth (ages 10-23) engagement in local government and elections. Your feedback is essential to understanding how the City and County of San Francisco can support local youth civic engagement. Three respondents will randomly be selected to each receive a $50 Target gift card. The survey closes Feb. 28.

Each year, SFUSD and Spark* SF Public Schools honors six students with the Superintendent’s 21st Century Award. Scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to graduating seniors who exemplify the characteristics of SFUSD’s Graduate Profile. All seniors are eligible to apply regardless of citizenship status. Recipients of the Superintendent’s 21st Century Award will be honored at a ceremony hosted by Spark in May.
Deadline: Mar. 17 at 5:00 p.m.
To be eligible for the Bridge to Excellence Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Must be an SFUSD or charter high school senior graduating in Spring 2023
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 at the time of graduation
- Demonstrate significant financial need
- Be the first in their family to attend a four-year college
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to a college education
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Proof of acceptance from chosen college or university
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, community member, coach, mentor, or anyone who has made a big impact on their lives
Deadline: Mar. 17 at 5:00 p.m.
