March is Women's History Month
|

|
Schools in SFUSD get a head start on Women's History Month in celebrating Women’s History and gender diversity by offering opportunities year-round. For example, Bal EmpowHER is a group of young women at Balboa High School who stand up for themselves and others. They promote conversations about women’s health and rights in their community. To celebrate Women’s History Month this year, members created a poster campaign promoting Healthy Relationships with friends, family, partners, and self. Teen Wellness Summit on Mental Health
Come to a FREE daylong gathering at City College of San Francisco to gain knowledge, learn new skills, reduce stigma around mental health, get helpful resources, and have FUN! There are 11 breakout sessions to choose from to learn more about screens and social media, eating disorders, mindfulness, healthy relationships, and much more. Plus, enjoy a raffle, goodie bags, and free lunch from Koja Kitchen.

2023 Anti-Tobacco / Anti-Vaping Art and Video PSA Contest
The 2023 Anti-Tobacco/Anti-Vaping (Public Service Announcement) Art and Video contest is open for submissions to students in grades 4-12 until April 16. This contest is organized by the Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB). SHAB works with SFUSD’s Student & Family Services programs to promote safe, healthy, and affirming school environments for students across the district. Students/groups can win up to $200 in prizes per category! (Featured art from 2021 contest by Natalie Wong, Balboa High School)

College Track San Francisco is Recruiting!
Application Deadline: March 28
Interested in going to college but don't know how? Join College Track's FREE 10th year college access and college completion program. Application is open to current 9th graders and there are 20 spots available. You will have access to academic support, test prep, leadership development, summer opportunities, exclusive internships, and volunteer opportunities.

Reminders for 12th Graders
University admissions offers are coming in! If you are choosing to live on campus at a university, please be sure to submit your housing application and deposit as soon as possible; housing is not always guaranteed for freshmen, depending on the college campus.
Also, the priority CalGrant deadline to fill out your FAFSA or California Dream Act Application was March 2, but if you haven't already filled out your financial aid application, it is not too late. You can work with your college advisor or counselor to complete it. Students going to a community college should absolutely fill out your financial aid application (FAFSA or CADAA). There are many financial assistance programs that you can only be connected to by submitting it!
2022-23 Scholarship Opportunties

The Association of Chinese Teachers (TACT) invites SFUSD Chinese American high school seniors who will graduate in June 2023 to participate in its scholarship program. TACT plans to award ~30 scholarships of $2000 to students whose goals will benefit their community. Applicants are required to complete an application form and submit it with 1-2 letters of recommendation and transcript by *TONIGHT* March 10 at 11:59 p.m.
Students with demonstrated growth and resilience are highly encouraged to apply, as well as those with an interest in entering the field of education. At least one scholarship has been set aside for students whose career choice is to be a bilingual teacher.

Each year, SFUSD and Spark* SF Public Schools honors six students with the Superintendent’s 21st Century Award. Scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to graduating seniors who exemplify the characteristics of SFUSD’s Graduate Profile. All seniors are eligible to apply regardless of citizenship status. Recipients of the Superintendent’s 21st Century Award will be honored at a ceremony hosted by Spark in May.
Deadline: March 17 at 5:00 p.m.
This scholarship award program recognizes young leaders who balance extraordinary challenges yet continue to show academic promise and community leadership. Each year, 11 outstanding SFUSD juniors are awarded $10,000 each to fund college tuition and/or education-related expenses.
Deadline: April 7 at 11:59 p.m.
