April is SFUSD Pride Month
|

This month, the San Francisco Unified School District is proud to honor the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, intersex, queer, and questioning members of our community in celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month. For over 30 years, SFUSD’s LGBTQ Student Services has been pioneering ways to make our classrooms, school yards, sports facilities, and bathrooms welcoming and affirming for LGBTQ students and families.

April is School Library Month and we celebrate our teacher librarians all year long. Our librarians create spaces for students to connect outside of class: clubs for tinkering, crafting, games like chess, and of course, reading. (Featured photo: Blackout poetry at June Jordan)

Get on a bike, bus, scooter, wheelchair, or skateboard, or go on foot to go to school, April 24 - 28! Organize your school's celebration, pledge to participate, or enter the art contest before May 10.

20th Annual Youth Summit
Join the SFUSD Student Advisory Council (SAC) Youth Summit. There will be guest speakers, workshops, food, games, and more! 826 Valencia Young Authors' Workshop
Each summer, 826 Valencia hosts the Young Authors’ Workshop (YAW), a three-week writing camp open to rising 9th-12th graders. Professional writers, poets, and spoken word artists will teach guest lessons, and volunteer tutors will help with revision and editing. At the end of the program, students who meet the camp’s requirements and expectations will receive a $500 stipend.

Opportunities for Youth: Ages 14-24
The San Francisco Department of Youth Children, and Their Families (DCYF), partners, and other agencies in San Francisco provide a wide array of opportunities for youth ages 14-24 to develop new skills, delve into their interests, receive funding for projects, and connect with their communities. Student Success Fund Survey
The San Francisco Youth Commission wants to ensure that youth voices are heard and considered when the City debates where and how Prop G funding is spent. This survey provides an opportunity for San Francisco students to share their thoughts on how to improve San Francisco schools. Any student 18 years or younger from grades PK-12 is eligible to participate in the survey.

2022-23 Scholarship Opportunties

Here is an opportunity you can apply for:
The Legacy Foundation for Bayview Hunters Point, in partnership with Lennar, FivePoint and the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII), has established a scholarship to assist students who reside in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood in the 94124, 94134 and 94107 zip codes and are pursuing a diploma, certificate, or degree in college or vocational-technical school.
To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be youth or young adults up to age 30 by deadline date
- Be high school seniors or graduates (or GED) or current college undergraduates or graduate-level students
- Reside in the Bayview Hunters Point zip codes 94124, 94107, or 94134
- Plan to enroll in full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the applicable term
- Be pursuing a diploma, certificate, or degree
- Have a household adjusted gross income (AGI) at or below 100% of the 2022 HUD SF Area Median Income (AMI) level for household size
